Anxiety Relief: one thing to embrace and one to avoid

Self help anxiety relief is all about awareness and adjustment. Or, more simply put, doing more of what helps and less of what hinders your progress. Here's some interesting reading on one of our favourite methods of managing anxiety and an informative piece on how caffeine can really mess things up.

 

A new study shows that yoga calms an irregular heartbeat:

From Reuters - Yoga, already proven to lower high blood pressure and cholesterol levels, can cut in half the risk of a common and potentially dangerous irregular heartbeat, according to a U.S. study released on Saturday.

Caffeine and Your Nervous System

A couple of weeks ago I got a call from someone asking for advice on reducing stress and improving their sleep, during that conversation they mentioned they were thinking of cutting out energy drinks because they felt they were contributing to the problem. Shann and I touched on this in our discussion on anxiety relapse and how to get through it - and I was just about to write more on it when Jason Herrington published a piece that covered it perfectly. Can energy drinks cause anxiety? The short answer is yes.

Energy drinks can stimulate  your nervous system. Anytime your nervous system gets a jolt, you can be rest assured that symptoms of anxiety aren’t too far behind.

Many energy drinks contain high levels of caffein, guarana, sugar or  yerba mate which can produce heightened symptoms associated with anxiety.  If you are sensitive to caffeine or any sort of stimulants, I would suggest you stay away from energy drinks. Read the full article here...
