711: Choosing the gentle path when living with anxiety
This week on the Anxiety Slayer podcast, we’re exploring how you can be more gentle with yourself when living with stress and anxiety.
Points discussed in this episode:
We can’t heal by force
The fix it mindset
People living with anxiety are often sensitive by nature, and that’s OK, we need to find our own way to heal.
Change means strain
Making simple changes and remedies - over time.
The opportunities in living with anxiety
Self-care and self-compassion
Knowing our nature, gifts and potentials
Changing our dialogue
Don't let anxiety be a dead end. Let it co-exist in our words with bigger and brighter things.
"I have anxiety and I love to write."
"I have anxiety and...." what comes after and for you?
Exploring your personal Dharma
The stress of not living according to our nature and the peace that comes with self-understanding
Sometimes the greatest peace comes when we’re not trying to manage or fix anxiety at all, but when we’ve settled on what counts as self-care for us and we’re setting aside time to be engaged in things that give our lives meaning and joy.
That immersion in something more than anxiety, something personally relevant and satisfying. That takes our attention away from anxiety and into something where we feel at home in ourself and that we’re doing something relevant.
Knowing our dharma anchors us, and there’s a universal principle of support for that.
Anxiety can rob us of choice - we get stuck
Caught in indecision/overthinking
What helps
-curiosity
-exploration
-know our strengths and focus there
